David Tuck, the founder of Goodwood Computers and Network Support, started in the information Systems industry in 1977 as a field
service engineer for IBM. He won the "IBM Means Service" award the first year in the field. After six years of installing and repairing
computer and office equipment, he transferred to Boca Raton and worked on the development team for Personal Computers as a technician
and technical writer. Projects included PC, PCXT, PCjr, AT, and the PS2. As a lead writer, he wrote parts of the technical references
for the PS2s and was a member of the Technical and Architecture review boards. Upon completion of the PS2s, David trained as a Usability
Engineer and tested DOS, early versions of the OS/2 and Windows operating systems, and many PC based software applications. He also
was a presenter at COMDEX and many other trade shows.
David transferred to Cary, NC and managed the documentation for Cross System
Product and became the area business manager and the lab focal point for Application Development Cycle and System Application Architecture.
He won numerous awards for the design and creation of the documentation and the interfaces for 4GL products including two divisional
awards for his work on CSP and OS/400. He then moved to marketing as a Senior Developer and Large Account Manager and also coordinated
and hosted Senior Customer Advisory Councils for the gathering and validation of product requirements and wrote applications to gather
customer requirements anonymously. He also managed the documentation of the lab development processes and coordinated the release
of product information to the press. When IBM downsized and announced the closure of many development labs, including Cary, David
decided to leave IBM and return to Virginia.
After leaving IBM, he became the IS Director for a regional firm in Lynchburg, Virginia
where he managed the personnel and equipment for an AS/400 data processing center; designed, installed, configured, managed, and maintained
a Microsoft based LAN/WAN, T1s and Frame Relays, E-lines, and a user base of 170+ workstations and notebooks located in
40 offices in 5 states. After 13 years of very dedicated and productive service, and being sole-support, David decided
to leave to start Goodwood to support a much wider range of customers and users including services to other communities and groups
not traditional to a computer-based service company.
